Phillies Concerned About Losing Bryce Harper To Dodgers

The Philadelphia Phillies have offered Bryce Harper over $300 million to sign with them but word is others are over $300 million too, according to Jon Heyman of the MLB Network.

Heyman reports the Phillies believe they may have the high bid but their confidence to sign Harper was dented by the emergence of the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Los Angeles is somewhere Harper wants to play and Philly has to decide whether to keep faith or up their offer.

Jon Morosi of the MLB Network adds some Phillies officials have grown concerned Harper will sign with the Dodgers if they make an offer that comes close to their offer. The ability to play close to home (Harper lives in Las Vegas) and train in Arizona both appeal to Harper, who is a Lakers fan.

Jon Heyman notes Magic Johnson wasn’t at the Dodgers’ meeting with Harper on Sunday either. It was just the powerful quartet of Walter, Kasten, Friedman and Roberts.

As previously noted, the race to sign Harper is between the Phillies, Dodgers and Giants with a decision expected by the end of the week. However, as long as this has gone on, a surprise can simply not be ruled out.
