Padres Bowing Out Of Bryce Harper Sweepstakes, Phillies Still Frontrunners

The San Diego Padres are ecstatic about landing Manny Machado and with $300 million committed to him, are bowing out of the Bryce Harper sweepstakes, according to Bob Nightengale of The USA Today.

This was believed to be the case after it was reported that Machado will sign a 10-year $300 million deal with the Padres but Jon Heyman noted the Padres were not ruling out signing Harper as well.

Nightengale notes the Philadelphia Phillies remain the frontrunners on Bryce Harper with the San Fransisco Giants also in the picture.

As for Machado, he’ll undergo his physicals Wednesday and Thursday before his contract is finalized with the Padres, per Nightengale. He will be wearing the No. 13 in San Diego.
