Ottawa Senators Fire Guy Boucher, Name Marc Crawford Interim Coach

The Ottawa Senators fired head coach Guy Boucher on Friday, according to ESPN and multiple reports.

Assistant coach Marc Crawford has been named the team’s interim coach.

The Senators (22-37-5) were sellers at the NHL trade deadline as they dealt Matt Duchene and Ryan Dzingel to the Columbus Blue Jackets and Mark Stone to the Vegas Golden Knights.

Boucher’s contract was set to expire at the end of the season.

“I want to thank Guy for his three years of service. He is a good person and has been an excellent representative of the Senators. At this point, however, we need a different set of coaching and leadership skills to guide our team through this rebuild,” general manager Pierre Dorion said via ESPN. “In the interim, Marc will bring a different perspective along with a wealth of head-coaching experience.”
