Luke Walton Certain To Be Fired After This Season?

The prevailing assumption in NBA coaching circles is that Luke Walton will “almost certainly be dismissed” after the season, according to Marc Stein of the New York Times.

Stein writes the floundering 30-33 Lakers are already looking ahead at offseason moves, which could include a head coaching change and the quest to trade for All-Star center Anthony Davis.

The Lakers tried hard to acquire Davis before the NBA trade deadline but eventually backed out when they couldn’t get the Pelicans to agree.

Walton is just 91-136 in three seasons with the Lakers but expectations were much higher this year with the addition of LeBron James. James has missed 17 games this season and the team has had trouble winning even with him back.

As previously reported, Walton is expected to finish the season as Lakers head coach.
