Now that Manny Machado is set to sign the largest free-agent contract in the history of American sports with the San Diego Padres at 10-years $300 million, all eyes are on free agent outfielder Bryce Harper.
Andy Martino of SNY.tv reports he’s been hearing lately that Harper is “unsure about” Philly. Obviously insinuating that Bryce Harper does not want to play for the Philadelphia Phillies.
It was reported by Joel Sherman of The New York Post in December that Harper wasn’t “particularly” fond of Philadelphia. The Phillies have intensified their pursuit of Harper lately.
As reported yesterday via Bob Nightengale of The USA Today, the Phillies are willing to offer Harper more than the 10-year, $300 million contract he turned down from the Washington Nationals in September.
Jon Heyman of The MLB Network reports Harper has multiple long-term offers for more than $30 million a year, with the Phillies being the favorite to land his services.
Harper is almost surely set to command more than the 10-years $300 million that Manny Machado is getting from the Padres so whatever team that is going to sign him will likely be setting the new record for a free-agent contract.
